Delhomme to start for Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- The Carolina Panthers will go with Jack Delhomme at quarterback Sunday against Tampa Bay.

Delhomme, signed as a free agent in the offseason, tossed three touchdown passes in the second half last Sunday as the Panthers rallied for a 24-23 season-opening win over Jacksonville, the last of which came with just 16 seconds left in the game.

Coach John Fox said the decision to go with Delhomme over last week's starter, Rodney Peete, was not easy.

"Those decisions are never easy," Fox said. "Ultimately, I have to make the decision that gives us the best opportunity to win. There was no question that Jake came in and sparked our offense."

Delhomme has a tough task this week. The defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers were dominant Monday night in a 17-0 shutout at Philadelphia Monday night, holding star Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb to just 148 yards passing.
