Arthroscopic knee surgery for Burnett

DAVIE, Fla., Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Defensive end Rob Burnett of Miami has undergone arthroscopic knee surgery and is expected to miss the Dolphins' first two preseason games.

Dr. Claude T. Moorman performed the surgery at the Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

Burnett had a torn portion of the lateral meniscus removed from the left knee. He will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis, but Coach Dave Wannstedt said Burnett should be ready to play by the season opener Sept. 7 against Houston.

Burnett, who turns 36 later this month, served as a backup to left end Adewale Ogunleye last season and recorded four sacks. The 13-year veteran was a starter in the 2000 season for the world champion Baltimore Ravens, who set a single-season record for allowing the fewest points (165) in a 16-game season.
