Hewitt highlights field at Mercedes-Benz

LAS ANGELES, Calif., July 28 (UPI) -- Lleyton Hewitt plays for the first time since a first-round loss at Wimbledon when he takes to the court this week at the Mercedes-Benz Cup.

The 22-year-old Hewitt, who was the top seed at Wimbledon and here, has not played since that June 23 match.

Andre Agassi won last year's Mercedes-Benz Cup but elected to play in Washington, D.C. this week.

None of the eight seeds was in action Monday as first-round play began. American Eric Taino outlasted Hyung-Taik Lee of Korea, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, while compatriot Alex Bogomolov Jr. beat Ricardo Mello of Brazil, 6-3, 6-2.

Kenneth Carlsen of Denmark edged American Bobby Reynolds, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), and Jan Vanek of the Czech Republic defeated Kevin Kim of the U.S., 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
