Terrell Davis waived by Broncos

DENVER, July 24 (UPI) -- Former NFL MVP Terrell Davis, unlikely to pass a physical before training camp, was released Thursday by the Denver Broncos.

The team, however, left open the possibility of a return.

"(Terrell) does not feel like he is in the optimum condition to pass the physical," Broncos Coach Mike Shanahan said. "He doesn't want to retire, he wants to keep on working. I told him, 'You keep on working and if you feel like you can pass the physical (and are in) the condition to pass the physical, we would love to have you back.'"

Davis, 30, spent all of last season on injured reserve and has played just 17 games in the past four seasons while battling various injuries in both legs.

Davis was the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXXII, helping the Broncos defeat the Green Bay Packers, 31-24.
