Report: Kidd wants Scott canned

NEW YORK, July 10 (UPI) -- It appears basketball's most wanted free agent has created an unexpected stir.

The New York Post reported Thursday that, according to NBA sources, point guard Jason Kidd has told the team he will go elsewhere if Coach Byron Scott is not fired.

The paper said Kidd made his point in a meeting with team executives on Tuesday night, when he also expressed his anger about how the Nets were outcoached in the fourth quarter of their Game Six loss to San Antonio in the NBA title series.

Ironically, Kidd is being courted heavily by the Spurs.

"T.J. could have coached a better quarter," Kidd is reported as saying.

New Jersey President Rod Thorn is said to have been a part of the meeting, but has not commented on the article.

Scott told the paper the comment caught him off guard.

"I have no reaction," Scott said. "It surprises me."

The paper said the Spurs are prepared to offer Kidd nearly $100 million over six years.
