Ryan Nelsen had the other goal for United, which ended a seven-game road winless streak against the Burn, winning in Dallas for the first time since Aug. 7, 1998.

Kovalenko put United in front for good in the 78th minute, four minutes after a controversial penalty kick by Dallas' Jason Kreis.

Ali Curtis held up a long ball, picking out Ben Olsen sprinting down the left side. Olsen pulled back a low cross from the corner, setting up Kovalenko for a first-time strike inside the far goalpost.
