KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 1 (UPI) -- Cleveland Indians infielder John McDonald has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with back spasms.

Since first suffering pains in his lower back in a game on June 13 against Los Angeles, McDonald played in just eight games since. He is hitting .252 with a homer and nine RBI in 49 games this season.

For the season, he is batting .252 with one home run and nine RBI. This marks his first career stint on the DL..

To fill his roster spot, the Indians recalled infielder Jhonny Peralta from Triple-A Buffalo of the International League. Peralta went 4-for-24 with an RBI in nine games with the Indians earlier in the month.
