Diamondbacks activate Mantei from DL

DENVER, June 30 (UPI) -- Arizona Diamondbacks closer Matt Mantei was activated from the 15-day disabled list Monday and in uniform for the team's game in Colorado.

Sidelined since June 1 with tendinitis in his pitching shoulder, Mantei worked four scoreless innings in three rehabilitation appearances for Class AAA Tucson.

While Mantei was injured, the Diamondbacks turned to Jose Valverde, who went 9-for-9 in save opportunities. He has appeared eight times during Arizona's current 11-game winning streak - logging six saves and a victory.

Mantei, 29, is 4-3 with seven saves in 20 appearances this season. In 22 2/3 innings, he has allowed 21 hits but struck out 29.

To make room on the roster, the Diamondbacks designated veteran righthander Ricky Bottalico for assignment. Bottalico had his contract purchased from Tucson last Monday when Mike Koplove was placed on the DL.
