Bobby Cox reaches milestone

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., June 28 (UPI) -- Bobby Cox got his team record 1,500th win as manager of the Atlanta Braves in an 8-2 rout of Tampa Bay.

"I didn't know that until I walked on the field and (third base coach) Fredi Gonzalez told me," Cox said. "It certainly wasn't on my mind tonight. I guess now it's time to shoot for 2,000. You stick around long enough, things like this will happen."

"That's awesome," said Horacio Ramirez, Friday night's winning pitcher. "Bobby has been around a long time."

Cox joined Connie Mack, John McGraw, Walter Alston, and Tommy Lasorda as the only managers who have ever won that many games with one team.

After an 8-2 win over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays Friday night, the National League East-leading Braves are 50-27, 7 ½ games ahead of Philadelphia. They are trying for their 11th straight divisional title.
