Glavine to miss first start since 1992

NEW YORK, June 8 (UPI) -- Lefthander Tom Glavine, who has had a disappointing first season with the New York Mets, will miss a start for the first time in 11 years.

New York Manager Art Howe said after Sunday's doubleheader loss to the Seattle Mariners that Glavine would not take his next turn in the rotation, which would have been Wednesday at Texas.

Glavine left Thursday's start against Milwaukee, the 518th of his career, with inflammation in his left elbow and skipped his bullpen session Sunday.

"I'm still not worried about it long-term," said the two-time Cy Young Award winner, who is 5-6 with a 4.82 ERA after signing with the Mets as a free agent in the offseason.

The 37-year-old last missed a start in September 1992 as a member of the Atlanta Braves and never has been on the disabled list.
