Detroit 3, NY Yankees 2

TAMPA, Fla., March 11 (UPI) -- Mike Maroth threw five strong innings and the Detroit Tigers took advantage of four errors Tuesday to post a 3-2 victory over the New York Yankees.

Maroth allowed a run and four hits while striking out one without a walk to gain the win. Fernando Rodney fired a perfect ninth for the save.

The Tigers scored all their runs without the benefit of any of their three hits.

Yankees starter Roger Clemens allowed two unearned runs in four innings with two walks and four strikeouts. Clemens hurt himself by uncorking a wild pitch and committing a throwing error.

Juan Rivera homered, Raul Mondesi doubled twice and Robin Ventura doubled and drove in a run for New York, which had five of its seven hits go for extra bases.
