Cleveland 7, Kansas City 3

CLEVELAND, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Despite starting the season 11-1 and finishing with a four-game winning streak, the Cleveland Indians completed their worst campaign in nearly a decade Sunday with a 7-3 triumph over the Kansas City Royals.

With the game tied at 2-2 in the sixth, Jim Thome collected his 500th career RBI at Jacobs Field and rookie Victor Martinez lifted a sacrifice fly as the Indians got to Royals' reliever Scott Mullen (4-5).

Royals center fielder Carlos Beltran launched a solo home run, his 29th of the season, and Aaron Guiel added an RBI single -- both in the top of the first inning off Cleveland's Roy Smith.

But Martinez and Earl Snyder hit their first career home runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off Kansas City starter Darrell May.

Jaret Wright (2-3) earned the victory, allowing a hit and a walk in the sixth. He struck out two.

May surrendered three hits and two runs in five innings. He struck out six.

Kansas City (62-100) completed the season with the third-worst record in baseball and reached the century mark in losses for the first time in franchise history.
