Pittsburgh 3, Milwaukee 2

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Bronson Arroyo pitched five innings for his first victory of the season and Mike Williams set a franchise record for saves Sunday as the Pittsburgh Pirates held on for a 3-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

Arroyo (1-1) made his second start of the season and just his third appearance after pitching in relief on July 7. He made his first start since June 1 after Jimmy Anderson was demoted to the bullpen last week.

The 25-year-old righthander gave up two runs and seven hits en route to his first win since Oct. 2. He struck out three and worked around four walks.

Four relievers combined on three scoreless innings before Williams struck out two in a perfect ninth. He notched his 35th save, eclipsing Jim Gott's franchise record set in 1988.

Adam Hyzdu homered and drove in two runs as the Pirates won their second straight game following a seven-game losing streak.

Milwaukee's Glendon Rusch (6-13) was tagged with the loss despite allowing just three runs in 6 2/3 innings.
