Baltimore 8, Toronto 4

TORONTO, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Tony Batista had three hits and drove in two runs and Chris Singleton hit a two-run homer Saturday to lead the Baltimore Orioles to an 8-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

With the Orioles owing a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Batista, a former Blue Jay who entered the game with just three hits in his previous 27 at bats, drove in Singleton with a one-out single to right.

Two innings later, Batista laced a one-out double to left scoring Gary Matthews Jr. to give Baltimore a 4-0 lead.

Singleton added his sixth homer of the season in the fourth, a blast to right off Toronto starter Chris Carpenter that gave Baltimore a 7-0 lead. Baltimore starter Travis Driskill (7-5) allowed four runs in seven innings and snapped a four-game losing streak. It was his first win against Toronto in three starts this season.

Carpenter (4-3) allowed seven runs and nine hits in four innings and was tagged with his first home loss in three decisions.
