Wartusch reaches Casablanca quarters

CASABLANCA, Morocco, July 11 (UPI) -- Sixth seeded Patricia Wartusch of Austria, the only seeded player in action, moved into the quarterfinals Thursday at the Grand Prix De SAR La Princesse.

Wartusch defeated American Kristina Brandi, 7-6 (7-2), 2-6, 6-2, to set up a quarterfinal meeting with Italy's Maria-Elena Camerin.

The other three second-round matches Thursday involved unseeded players at the Tier V claycourt event.

Camerin cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 romp over Russian Anastassia Rodionova, who ousted top-seeded German Marlene Weintgartner in the first round.

Klara Koukalova of the Czech Republic overcame Slovakian qualifier Edina Gallovitz, 6-2, 1-6, 7-5, and Gisela Dulko of Argentina breezed past Australian Cindy Watson, 6-3, 6-2.

Dulko ousted second-seeded Spaniard Angeles Montolio in the first round and next meets seventh-seeded Hungarian Zsofia Gubacsi.

Fourth-seeded Slovakian Ludmila Cervanova faces Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova in the other quarterfinal match.
