Cleveland 2, Baltimore 1 (10 inn.)

CLEVELAND, June 13 (UPI) -- Chris Magruder tripled home the winning run in the 10th inning Thursday as the Cleveland Indians handed the Baltimore Orioles their first extra-inning loss of the season, 2-1.

Willis Roberts (3-2) walked Ricky Gutierrez with one out before Macgruder lined the first pitch into the right field corner. Gutierrez was able to score easily despite suffering what looked like a leg injury while rounding third base.

The Orioles lost for the first time in seven extra-inning games this season.

Jerrod Riggan (1-0), called up from Class AAA Buffalo earlier in the day when Paul Shuey went on the disabled list, pitched a scoreless 10th for the win.

Magruder ended what began as a pitchers' duel between Cleveland's Chuck Finley and Baltimore's Jason Johnson.

Finley allowed four hits in 6 2/3 innings, yielding his only run on a bases-loaded walk to Mike Bordick in the seventh. The lefthander walked four and struck out eight to raise his career total to 2,503, moving him ahead of Christy Mathewson into 23rd place on the all-time list.

Chad Poronto replaced Finley in the seventh and got Jerry Hairston to ground into a force play to prevent further damage.

Johnson was just as effective as Finley, allowing one run and three hits with one walk and seven strikeouts. His one costly mistake was a fourth-inning homer to Ellis Burks, his 11th of the season.
