Cleveland 11, Detroit 7

CLEVELAND, May 30 (UPI) -- Ellis Burks and Jim Thome each belted two homers Thursday night as the Cleveland Indians hit a season-high five out of the park and rolled to an 11-7 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Cleveland has built contenders in recent seasons based on powerful lineups, but coming into the game was tied for eighth in the American League with just 52 homers this year. That was before Burks and Thome capped their domination of the four-game series and led the Indians to their highest-scoring game of the season.

Rookie Chris Magruder hit a solo homer in the second inning to give Cleveland a 2-1 edge. Burks belted a three-run shot with two out and Thome followed with a solo blast as Cleveland hit three homers in the same inning for the first time since May 1, 2001.

Thome added a three-run homer off reliever Jose Lima (1-3) in the fourth inning and Burks capped the scoring with a solo shot in the sixth.

David Riske (1-2) got the victory after striking out the side in the sixth inning.
