Slated for Sept. 20-22, the encounter will come nearly 75 years after the two nations christened Roland Garros with the 1928 Davis Cup matches.

The Americans advanced with a 3-1 quarterfinal triumph over Spain on grass at Houston. While Pete Sampras was beaten on his favorite surface, Andy Roddick rescued the U.S. by winning both of his singles matches.

The defending Davis Cup champion, France edged the Czech Republic, 3-2, in the quarterfinals as Fabrice Santoro defeated Bohdan Ulihrach in five sets in the decisive match.

This will be the 14th Davis Cup meeting between the nations, with the United States holding a 7-6 edge. The last confrontation was 1995, when the Americans cruised to a 4-1 first-round victory in St. Petersburg, Fla.

The last matchup on French soil was a 3-1 upset by the home country, which knocked off a U.S. squad led by Sampras and Andre Agassi.
