Philadelphia 7, Atlanta 5 (11 inn.)

PHILADELPHIA, April 10 (UPI) -- Scott Rolen's homer off John Smoltz with two out in the ninth tied the game Wednesday night and Pat Burrell's two-run shot in the 11th gave the Philadelphia Phillies a 7-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

In Monday night's Atlanta win, Smoltz danced into and out of trouble in the ninth inning, pitching out of a first-and-third, none-out jam by striking out Rolen.

Called on to protect a 5-4 lead, the hard-throwing righthander appeared on his way to another save as he easily retired the first two batters.

However, Rolen got his revenge by launching the first pitch he saw into the left field seats. It was the first blown save of the season for Smoltz, a former Cy Young Award winner in his first full season as closer.

Cliff Politte (2-0) pitched scoreless frames in the 10th and 11th before the Phillies got to Kerry Ligtenberg. Jimmy Rollins led off with a double and held as Marlon Anderson grounded out.

Burrell belted the first pitch over the left-field fence to send the Veterans Stadium crowd home happy.

Burrell, one of top hitters in college baseball during his days at Miami, had not hit a game-winning homer until Sunday, when he beat the Florida Marlins with a blast in the 11th inning.
