Minnesota 8, Kansas City 6

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 1 (UPI) -- Jacque Jones' three-run home run off reliever Cory Bailey in the top of the seventh inning erased a two-run deficit Monday and lifted the Minnesota Twins to an 8-6 triumph over the Kansas City Royals.

Jones, who also led off the game with a solo shot, belted the first pitch he saw from Bailey over the right-center field fence to give the Twins a 7-6 lead. It was his second career multi-homer game.

Bailey (0-1) started the inning in relief of starter Jeff Suppan, who allowed four runs and seven hits over six innings.

Brian Buchanan singled to left field and took second on A.J. Pierzynski's groundout. After Luis Rivas got a base hit, Jones connected for his sixth career homer at Kauffman Stadium in 68 at bats.

Bailey, who retired just two batters, surrendered four runs on five hits and a walk.

David Ortiz was a triple shy of the cycle, going three for four with a solo home run. Buchanan and Torii Hunter also homered for the Twins.
