Vancouver 4, Anaheim 1

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 31 (UPI) -- Andrew Cassels and Henrik Sedin extended their goal-scoring streaks to three games Satuday night as the Vancouver Canucks pulled away for a 4-1 triumph over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim.

Vancouver won for the eighth time in 10 games but remained two points out of a playoff spot, thanks to victories by Phoenix, St. Louis and Edmonton.

Cassels deflected defenseman Ed Jovanovski's slap shot from the blue line for his 11th goal late in the second period to give the Canucks a 3-1 lead. Cassels has three goals and three assists in three games after missing eight with a concussion.

Sedin and Markus Naslund scored 97 seconds apart late in the first to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead.

Left wing Todd Warriner fired a shot from the right hashmark that goaltender Steve Shields stopped. The puck dropped to the ice and Shields tried to cover it with his blocker hand. Believing he heard a whistle for a stoppage in play, Shields stood up and left the puck lying on the ice before Sedin backhanded it into the net for his third goal in as many games.

Naslund stopped a clearing attempt at the blue line and made a shot that beat Shields to the stick side just inside the left goalpost.
