Phoenix 6, Vancouver 1

PHOENIX, March 8 (UPI) -- Teppo Numminen collected a career-high four assists and Ladislav Nagy nearly recorded his first NHL hat trick Thursday night as the Phoenix Coyotes cruised to a 6-1 rout of the Vancouver Canucks.

Vancouver was seeking a team-record sixth consecutive road win. But Phoenix scored three times on its first five shots, chased goaltender Peter Skudra and extended its home winning streak to five games.

Already with the highest winning percentage in franchise history, Francis passed John Paddock for the record for points in a career with 251 in 228 games.

Numminen set up first-period tallies by Shane Doan and rookie Branko Radivojevic and second-period goals by Nagy and Mike Johnson, who beat Dan Cloutier on a shorthanded breakaway to extend the Coyotes' lead to 5-1.

Todd Bertuzzi had the lone goal for Vancouver, which has just one win in its last six games overall (1-2-1-2).
