Novak, three other seeds advance

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic cruised to victory Thursday in straight sets in the second round at the Copenhagen Open as he advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Bulgarian Vladimir Voltchkov.

The other seeded players had a bit more trouble, including No. 4 Davide Sanguinetti of Italy, who had all he could handle from hometown favorite Kenneth Carlsen. Sanguinetti outlasted the Copenhagen native, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (11-9).

Second-seeded German Rainer Schuettler defeated Ivo Heuberger of Switzerland, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, and No. 8 Christophe Rochus of Belgium downed Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4).

In unseeded play, Belgian Olivier Rochus defeated German Axel Pretzsch, 6-2, 6-0; Lars Burgsmuller of Germany ousted Neville Godwin of South Africa, 6-7 (3-7), 6-0, 6-3; Sweden's Magnus Larsson dispatched Georgian Irakli Labadze, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1); and American Cecil Mamiit downed Czech Michal Tabara, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.
