WASHINGTON, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Jaromir Jagr scored the go-ahead goal and added an assist Friday night as the Washington Capitals extended their winning streak to three games with a 6-2 victory over the New York Rangers.
After trailing by two goals midway through the second period, Washington took the lead 37 seconds into the third when Jagr stuffed a rebound from the top of the crease past rookie goaltender Dan Blackburn.
Jagr has had three straight multi-point games and has a point in four of five since returning from a nagging knee injury.
The Capitals scored six unanswered goals, starting with Adam Oates' tally with five minutes left in the second period.
Rangers defenseman Igor Ulanov received a match penalty a minute later for punching Chris Simon in retaliation for a spear to the midsection. Simon was not penalized and defenseman Sergei Gonchar tied it on the ensuing five-minute power play.
Andrei Nikolishin scored twice and Dainius Zubrus added his first goal of the season to seal the win for Washington, which fired a season-high 51 shots at the 18-year-old Blackburn.
Olaf Kolzig made 21 saves for the Capitals, squaring his record at 9-9-1.
Winners of eight of their previous nine games, the Rangers took the early lead on goals by Mike York and Andreas Johansson.
