Pittsburgh 1, NY Rangers 0 (OT)

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Jan Hrdina scored with 19 seconds left in overtime and Johan Hedberg outdueled rookie Dan Blackburn Saturday night, allowing the Pittsburgh Penguins to extend their home unbeaten streak to seven games with a 1-0 blanking of the New York Rangers.

A clearing attempt by Rangers defenseman Brian Leetch glanced off teammate Mark Messier just outside the New York blue line. Pittsburgh's Billy Tibbetts pounced on the turnover and made a no-look backhanded pass to Hrdina, who rifled a shot from the high slot just under Blackburn's glove and into the top right corner of the net.

It was the fourth goal of the season and second game-winner for Hrdina, who did not have a point in his previous four contests.

Hedberg stopped 36 shots for his second shutout of the season. He kept the game scoreless just over a minute into the extra period by sliding to stop a shot by Petr Nedved, who stole the puck from defenseman Michal Rozsival.

Blackburn, an 18-year-old rookie, made 25 saves and came within 19 seconds of his first NHL shutout. But New York was blanked for the first time this season and had a six-game winning streak snapped.
