Davenport continues win streak

MUNICH, Germany, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Second seeded Lindsay Davenport of the United States enjoyed another overwhelming performance against Jelena Dokic of Yugoslavia to continue her winning ways Thursday.

Davenport recorded 14 aces and broke Dokic's serve four times in overpowering her opponent for the third time in 12 days, 6-3, 6-3, to advance to the semifinals of the season-ending Sanex Championships.

In Thursday's other quarterfinal, Belgian Kim Clijsters, the third seed, took eight of the final nine games to pull away for a 7-5, 6-1 win over Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario at the $3 million indoor event.

Davenport and Clijsters will square off in Saturday's semifinals.

Friday's quarterfinals will pit top seed Jennifer Capriati of the United States against Sandrine Testud of France, and fourth seed Justine Henin of Belgium versus seventh seed Serena Williams of the United States.

Davenport extended her tour winning streak to 14 matches. A seven-time winner this year, Davenport also upended Dokic in straight sets to win the Swisscom Challenge at Zurich on October 21 and successfully defended her title at the Generali Ladies Open at Linz, Austria on Sunday.

The Californian's recent run of success began with her triumph at the Porsche Grand Prix at Filderstadt, Germany. The 25-year-old claimed her 37th career title at Linz.

Dokic's only three losses in her last 15 matches have come against Davenport. During that span, the 18-year-old has claimed the Princess Cup at Tokyo and the Kremlin Cup at Moscow.

Clijsters has won her last six matches, having trounced American Lisa Raymond to win the Seat Open at Luxembourg on Sunday.
