Sorenstam meets Pak in fonal

NARITA, Japan, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Annika Sorenstam of Sweden and Se Ri Pak of Korea set up a marquee final at the World Ladies Match Play Championship Sunday with easy wins at the Sohsei Country Club.

Sorenstam defeated Lorie Kane of Canada, 4 & 2, while Pak pounded Japan's Yu-Chen Huang, 6 & 4, in the semifinals of the first match-play event in nine years on the LPGA Tour.

After a short break, Sorenstam and Pak began the 18-hole final as they sought the top prize of $144,000.

The final match could end up deciding the Player of the Year on the LPGA Tour. Sorenstam has won a tour-high six titles this season and Pak has claimed five, including three of her last seven starts.

They also are No. 1-2 on the money list. Sorenstam, a three-time Player of the Year, has earned $1,684,868, and Pak, the 1998 Rookie of the Year, has collected $1,533,009.
