Oklahoma 14, Texas 3

DALLAS, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Third-ranked Oklahoma intercepted Texas quarterback Chris Simms four times Saturday and backup quarterback Jason White played mistake free to boost the Sooners to a physical 14-3 victory over No. 5 Texas.

Oklahoma extended the nation's longest winning streak to 18 games.

Cornerback Roy Williams sealed the victory with 2:01 left when he blitzed from the left side and caught up with Simms, whose pass popped into the hands of Teddy Lehman at the Texas two-yard line.

Lehman waltzed into the end zone to put the Sooners (5-0, 2-0 Big 12 South) ahead by 11 points.

Oklahoma won its eighth straight game against a Top 10 team under coach Bob Stoops, whose program emerged as a national power last season with a 63-14 humiliation of the Longhorns.

While the 2000 Red River Shootout was an offensive affair, Oklahoma won Saturday with defense, sacking Simms five times and holding the Longhorns to 25 rushing yards.

Texas (4-1, 1-1) had been looking ahead to Saturday almost immediately after last year's loss, and the game was seen as a chance at redemption for coach Mac Brown, who often has been criticized for seeing his team come up short in big games.

While the Longhorns kept it closer than last season, the loss was still a devastating blow to their national title hopes.

Quentin Griffin, who scored six touchdowns in last season's rout of Texas, scored the only touchdown of the first half when he took a pitch from White and raced two yards into the left corner of the end zone.

Oklahoma missed two field goals, including one in the second half after a lengthy drive appeared to take the steam out of the Longhorns.

White came in to replace injured starter Nate Hybl, who suffered damage to his right shoulder in the first half. White completed 16 of 23 passes for 108 yards and was his team's leading rusher with 38 yards.
