'Sopranos' actor Gross avoids jail time

NEW YORK, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Louis Gross, who plays bodyguard Perry Annunziata on "The Sopranos," avoided jail time over a New York criminal mischief charge from months ago.

The 23-year-old actor, who was arrested in April for allegedly breaking into a woman's Queens apartment, agreed to stay out of legal trouble for the next six months in return for no jail time on the criminal charge, E! Online said.

Gross, who gained fame on the gritty HBO drama last season for being beaten by lead Tony Soprano, allegedly broke into the woman's apartment in an attempt to gather some of his belongings there and was arrested shortly thereafter, police said.

His lawyer, Samuel Bernstein, helped broker the actor's court deal and has continued to claim that his client merely was staying at the locale when he accidentally broke its outer door frame, the report said.

The Web site said this is the second recent incident for Gross, who faced robbery charges in February for leaving a New York clothing boutique with unpaid items.
