TNK-BP novel in drilling technology

MOSCOW, March 26 (UPI) -- A subsidiary of Anglo-Russian venture TNK-BP announced it was testing a project in Siberia to extract oil from different reservoirs using the same drill hole.

TNK-BP subsidiary TNK-Uvat launched a pilot project in the Ust-Tegusskoe field in the Urals federal district in Siberia that would allow oil production from different reservoirs through the same borehole.

Andrei Rublev, the general director of TNK-Uvat, said the oil would be extracted and monitored separately for each reservoir.

The Ust-Tegusskoe field has the potential to produce around 1,000 barrels of oil per day from a single borehole from the pilot project, Rublev added.

"This project is not only a first for TNK-BP but for Russia, too," the company announced.

So-called commingled production testing is set for June. Rublev said if the project is determined to be commercially viable, up to 20 wells of this type will be drilled in the Ust-Tegusskoe field.
