Gazprom, PGNiG discuss gas through 2037

MOSCOW, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Russian gas giant Gazprom discussed with its partners at Polish energy company PGNiG increased gas supplies through 2037, executives said in Moscow.

Alexander Medvedev, deputy chief at the Russian gas monopoly, welcomed Polish ministers and executives from Poland's state-run oil and gas company PGNiG to discuss natural gas agreements.

Both parties discussed further coordination on a series of protocols on Russian gas supply and transits to Poland signed in 1993.

"The said documents outline the framework provisions for entering into contracts on the corporate level," said Medvedev. "We expect them to be endorsed by the governments of both countries any time now."

Poland is able to meet 30 percent of its annual gas consumption through domestic reserves. Gazprom in 2008 agreed to deliver nearly 290 billion cubic feet of gas per year.

A portion of those gas supplies travels through a section of the Yamal-Europe pipeline.
