Statoil plans upgrades for Asgard field

STAVANGER, Norway, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Well adjustments and pipeline construction associated with the Asgard field in the Norwegian Sea will bring versatility to gas production there, Statoil said.

Statoil said gas production at some of its wells on Asgard was declining while others were showing an increased capacity.

The company said it plans to build a new pipeline between two of its production platforms associated with the field, Asgard A and Asgard B. Once the connection is completed in 2010, Statoil expects gas production to be more balanced and efficient.

"These adjustments are important for the optimal utilization of the Asgard field in the years ahead," says Stale Tungesvik, vice president for reserves and business development at Statoil.

Eight wells used currently to provide pressure support at the field would convert to production wells as well.

"We are now turning the field into an even more flexible producer," added Tungesvik. "It will help secure our gas supplies."
