Eagle Ford shale activity prompts upgrades

HOUSTON, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Production activity in the Eagle Ford gas shale play in Texas has increased to the level that pipeline extensions are necessary, executives said.

Houston company Enterprise Products Partners said two pipeline projects under construction would provide the infrastructure necessary to carry more than 200 million cubic feet of natural gas from the Eagle Ford shale play in Texas by the first quarter of 2010.

"With exploration and production activity in the Eagle Ford ramping up quickly, it is essential that midstream infrastructure and services be able to keep pace," said A.J. Teague, executive vice president and chief commercial officer for Enterprise.

The White Kitchen Lateral is a new 62-mile gas pipeline that runs through LaSalle and Webb counties in Texas. Enterprise said the project is slated for completion by the second quarter of 2010, though certain sections are in service already.

Another 34-mile pipeline that will be incorporated into the main artery for Eagle Ford shale should be in service in the second quarter of 2010, the company said.

The Eagle Ford shale covers more than 10 million acres in Texas extending from the coast of the Gulf of Mexico to near the border of Louisiana.
