Google doodles Marie Curie's birthday

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- The search engine Google honored scientist Marie Curie's 144th birthday Monday with a homepage doodle.

Curie, a two-time Nobel Prize winner credited with discovering radium and polonium, was born in Warsaw, Poland on Nov., 7, 1867. She died in 1934 from excessive exposure to radiation, the American Institute of Physics said.

Google doodles are the decorative changes made to the Google logo to celebrate holidays, anniversaries, and the lives of famous artists and scientists. Albert Einstein's birthday and the 50th anniversary of understanding DNA are among the other scientific events that have been celebrated with doodle artwork, Google's Web site said.
