Some Hawaiian Kettle potato chips recalled

OTTAWA, March 3 (UPI) -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning people not to eat certain Hawaiian Kettle Style-brand potato chips due to possible bacterial contamination.

Officials said Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd. of Ottawa, Ontario, initiated a recall of the U.S.-manufactured chips -- "Sweet Maui Onion variety" -- with "Best Before" dates from "10 MR 09" (March 9, 2010) to "10 JN 07" (June 7, 2010).

The recalled Hawaiian Kettle Style chips were sold in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Food contaminated with salmonella bacteria may not look or smell spoiled, but it can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, the CFIA said.

Consumers with questions can call the company at 800-463-3783 or the CFIA at 800-442-2342.
