Some Fisher/Rex-brand sandwiches recalled

WASHINGTON, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a three-state recall of Fisher/Rex-brand Sandwiches because of potential bacterial contamination.

The FDA said Fisher/Rex Sandwiches of Raleigh, N.C. initiated the recall because the sandwiches might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

The recalled products -- all with seven-digit lot codes -- were distributed to convenience stores, gas stations and other retail outlets in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. Sandwiches with a five-digit lot code are not subject to the recall, officials said.
