Chocolate bars may have caused disease

LONDON, July 21 (UPI) -- Cadbury's, one of the best-known British brands, has been linked to an outbreak of salmonella in Britain.

The company recalled 1 million chocolate bars in June, the BBC reports. Officials say a broken pipe at a plant in Marlbrook, Herefordshire, is responsible for the possible contamination.

Health officials say 36 cases of salmonella may have been caused by contaminated chocolate. The Health Protection Agency, in a statement, said that the pattern of the outbreak suggested the cause was a product distributed nationwide.
