The ESA's Darwin Project involves the 2014 launch of six satellite telescopes flying in formation. Scientists say the mission will enable the study of the universe with unprecedented precision and depth, improving on current telescopes by several orders of magnitude.

Among the immediate aims of the project will be a search for planets outside the Solar System that have the possibility of life.
