Telewest matches broadband speed increase

LONDON, Aug. 15 (UPI) -- The revving up of Britain's broadband system continues, with Telewest increasing speeds without raising prices.

Telewest Broadband is following up on NTL's plans to increase basic speeds to 10Mb by announcing that it too will boost capacity from 2 Mb or 4 Mb to 10 Mb without raising its basic price.

Slower packages will also see increases in speed, which raises the possibility that users of cheaper plans won't take the step of going to full broadband service.

A release said Telewest planned to start the upgrades next month with completion expected early in 2006.
