U.K. food recalls grow to 418 items

LONDON, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- British regulators have increased to 418 the number of food products contaminated with the cancer-causing red food dye Sudan 1.

The Food Standards Agency, saying it has found another 59 items contaminated with Sudan 1, increased to 418 the number of food items it was ordering recalled, the Telegraph reported Tuesday.

The items include pizzas, sauces and sausages from all the main supermarket chains made by such prominent brands as Pot Noodle, Heinz Weight Watchers, Birds Eye and Colman. More than 300 firms have been hit by the recall.
