Gibbons: DOE ignored research reactors

WASHINGTON, April 25 (UPI) -- The Department of Energy failed to include the nation's research reactors in its environmental impact statement on transporting nuclear waste to the proposed Yucca Mountain storage site in Nevada, Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., said Thursday. A DOE spokesman said the sites are covered in other filings and the director of a research reactor noted that such facilities have been shipping spent fuel to DOE repositories for years.
