Spenser the cat loves drinking craft beer and sipping glasses of wine

The owners of Salisbury Wine Shop in North Carolina made an interesting discovery about their cat. In addition to playing fetch and giving kisses on command, Spenser also has an affinity for drinking craft beer and sipping glasses of wine. The Potters' other cats are on the wagon.

Bob Potter told the Salisbury Post he was surprised the first time he saw Spenser licking beer out of a glass he poured. Spenser likes the good stuff apparently as the beer in question was a black IPA. “I was flabbergasted,” Bob said. “I couldn’t believe it.”

The Potters say that Spenser pretty much avoids beers like Millers or Budweiser. “He likes craft beer -- he likes good craft beer,” Potter said.

Spenser’s owners don’t intentionally give him alcohol, but like any good cat burglar, he finds a way to get what he wants. “We love our cats,” Potter says, “and we’d never do anything to hurt them.”

The 9-year-old cat also has been known to steal sips of red, white and sparkling wine, as well as Bloody Marys and margaritas.

“It surprises people,” Potter said.
