Following the incident in the West Valley City parking lot, Erasmo Garcia-Serna was arrested and charged with interfering with a police service animal, lewdness, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Advertisement K-9 Officer Todd Zahlmann and his partner, Lobo, responded to Costco to deal with a naked man, identified as Garcia-Serna, pulling on the gas pumps. "I said, 'I've got a police dog, get on the ground, you're gonna get bit by the dog,'" Zahlmann said. "He kept coming at me in a very threatening manner, so I released Lobo." Lobo jumped on Garcia-Serna and bit him on the chest as they tumbled to the ground. During the attack, he pulled the dog towards him and began biting his neck. "[Lobo] is now getting assaulted, so now I had to go in and help, to prevent him from getting hurt and injured," Zahlmann said. Advertisement Garcia-Serna was eventually tazed and arrested. Lobo did not suffer serious injuries during the incident, but that doesn’t mean Zahlmann was taking it lightly. "We're a team, that's what we do, we go to battle together," Zahlmann said.
