"When we open the Guinness World Records book and see Mochi's picture in there, we're going to feel very proud," Mochi's owner Carla Rickert said. "It will make all the slobber we've cleaned up over the last six-and-a-half years worth it!"
Rickert and her husband Craig rescued Mochi when she was 2 years old and hope her spot in the Guinness record book can help highlight the joy rescue animals can bring to a home.
"Mo is resilient, comical, loving and eternally grateful and loyal to us - her forever family. This once abused and neglected pub has taught us that it's okay to be different. We are proud of her unique feature," she said.
Mochi's record-breaking tongue comes with a few downsides, including trouble breathing, slobber and errant leaves or other debris her tongue picks up, but Rickert remains proud of her dog's unique claim to fame.
"It still does not seem real! Mochi is so humble, she never brags or boasts but I know that she is as proud of her new record as we are," she said.
