Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Wildlife officials in Montana captured two black bear cubs that were seen wandering a local town after being separated from their family.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Warden Nick Taylor said the cubs were first spotted on Saturday morning when someone chased them and their mother into the prairie, causing the family to split up.

"The Sheriff's Office is aware of the two bear cubs roaming around town, Fish and Wildlife Parks has been Contacted and are working to move the bears to a safer location," Wheatland County Sheriff's Office said.

Taylor said Montana FWP managed to capture one of the cubs late Monday morning and the other that afternoon.

Both cubs are between 30 and 35 pounds, one is female and Taylor was unsure of the other's gender.

The cubs will be transported to Montana Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Helena, where they will be cared for until they can survive on their own back in the wild.

"We would like to thank everyone for giving us and the bears space yesterday while we worked. The bears were captured without injury," FWP said. "These delicate urban wildlife situations can be stressful for humans and the wildlife involved. With the dry conditions in the area bears are roaming looking for food and water this time of year."
