Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe Aug. 17 (UPI) -- A hungry lioness' attempt to sneak up on a tasty-looking hippopotamus in Kenya ended in disaster in a caught-on-camera encounter. The video, filmed in Maasai Mara, shows the female lion approach the hippo from behind as it appears to be sleeping, but the large creature is quickly roused by the big cat's presence. Advertisement The lioness hesitates a moment before fleeing, which proves to be a near-fatal mistake when the hippo grabs the predator's head in its powerful jaws and throws the hunter to the ground on its back. The lioness was able to pick itself up and flee without apparent serious injuries. "The lioness survived but will probably never come 10 feet close to a hippo again," the uploader wrote.
