July 5 (UPI) -- A couple driving through a park that borders Botswana and South Africa captured video of a wildebeest calf chasing a car that it appeared to confuse for its mother.

Zaheer and Asma Ali said they were driving through Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, which straddles the border between the two southern African nations, when they spotted the baby wildebeest chasing a blue car ahead of them on the road.

"We realized that he was probably lost and the had taken to the car in front of us as its mother. We knew it was a natural instinct for him to follow the biggest moving object closest to him, as he would have done in the herd," Zaheer Ali wrote.

The video shows the wildebeest chasing the blue car and nearly ending up in a collision with a car traveling the opposite direction.

Ali said the wildebeest switched to chasing the car that almost struck it before turning its attentions on the couple's car. He said they were concerned about the wildebeest's safety in the area due to the presence of lions and cheetahs.

The pair drove with the calf in tow until they located a wildebeest herd.

"Eventually, the herd of wildebeest appeared. There were around 50 wildebeest in this herd... the calf stopped and within 5 seconds the mother came running towards him and they were reunited. He immediately started suckling on her," Ali wrote.

Ali said the wildebeest's adventure spanned a distance of more than 4 miles.
