Coast Guard rescues four sea turtles tangled in trash

May 15 (UPI) -- A U.S. Coast Guard cutter crew in California rescued a group of sea turtles from some floating trash, including one turtle with a plastic jug stuck on its head.

U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Southwest said in a Facebook post the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Valiant is "shell-ebrating" after rescuing a baby sea turtle and three adults from floating trash in the Eastern Pacific Ocean.

Photos show the turtles tangled in fishing gear and trapped in pieces of garbage, including a plastic jug stuck on one turtle's head.

"After saving the turtles from a mass of lines, fishing gear and garbage, the crew took the drifting debris back to the cutter for disposal ashore," the post said.

"Turtle-y awesome job!" the Coast Guard joked.
