China tourist attraction installs 'speed bumps' for pedestrians

May 4 (UPI) -- A tourist attraction in China installed a creative measure to get guests to slow down and enjoy the scenery.

Photos shared by the People's Daily show a series of raised "speed bumps" on a pedestrian walkway in the ancient Taierzhuang water town in the Zaozhuang province.

The more than 50 black and yellow bumps earned the sloped walkway the nickname "washboard road."

Taierzhuang was built during the Qin and Han dynasties and is home to part of the world's longest and oldest artificial watercourse, the Grand Canal.

While some believed the bumps were meant to slow down pedestrians others suggested they may have been placed on the slope to act as a makeshift staircase.
