The man used his cellphone to call for help and Water Police responded to the emergency call just before 4 p.m. and plucked the man and his damaged 21-foot kayak out of the water.
Police said the man was "uninjured although quite shaken and glad to be out of the water."
Sgt. Gordon Thiry of the Brisbane Water Police said the man was lucky police were able to find his location quickly.
"We would encourage anyone heading out on the water to always wear a life jacket, carry an EPIRB [Emergency Position Indicating Radiobeacon] and make sure you let someone else know where you're traveling to and how long it will take," he said.
